I stopped using the pump system for chems because I found it easier to mix concentrate and send downstream with the Pw. It saves me so much time and you get alot more product on the surface. For instance, I can make a super deck stripper and send it down the necessasry strength. I just use the Pump Tec for staining! Hope that helps!

Mike,
This thread is about pumps choices for cleaning roofs. You can not get the chems strong enough for roof cleaning with a downstreamer.

If I can stripp a deck that requires 3 pounds of sodium met/hydrox stripper in ,a 5ver for a super tuff removal job, AND DO IT BETTER out of my injector than I would disagree. I do it all the time! You can get stronger strength than you expect if you can mix your chems right and do the proper ratios. It's how I do it and have had enourmous success cutting jobs in 1/3-1/2.

We use a 4 HP honda with a Comet MC-16 pump.
It is more of a commercial setup. It allows 2 operators.
I'm pondering using a SF for chemical transfer between tanks though.

Is yours trailer-mounted or one of the portable hand truck jobs?

The Truth About Which Shur Flo Pump To Get - May 26th, 06, 12:20 AM

Actually, you need them BOTH!
The 100psi 1.6 gpm is a lot better when you have to shoot a steep roof, or are using a lot of hose.
The 45psi 3.6 gpm is faster using a shorter hose, and on a single story house.
2 ShurFlo's in Parallel will almost double the flow, and drastically increase speed.
When I used ShurFlo's on my trucks, I had paralled 45psi 3.6 gpm's, and only one 100 psi 1.6 gpm.
I have found when shooting chemical, I seldom needed the added flow, too much run off!

We are talking a total investment of slightly over 300 dollars here for 3 pumps!
My trucks always carried spares that could easily be replaced in the field.
.
All one has to do is look at Mallard Systems, the largest roof cleaning comany in the world.
They still use ShurFlo's ... wonder why ?

Yes You Can ! - May 27th, 06, 07:54 PM

You can get adequate strength chemicals using a downstream injector, IF you compensate for it.
By that I mean simply INCREASE the chemical strength going into the injector.
I am by NO means a pressure cleaning expert, but take degreaser for example ?
Most commercial degreasers are simply from 6 to 10 percent sodium hydroxide.

A chemical injector, in the real world, will draw about 20 percent.
So, to get 10 percent at the end of the hose, start out with 45 percent sodium hydroxide going into the injector!
I aint too good at math, but 20 percent of 45 percent works out to about 9 percent.
2 times 4.5 equals 9, right ?
Lets see, 9 percent sodium hydroxide, sounds like degreaser to me ?
I had a friend cleaning roofs like this!
Once, you could actually but really strong sodium hypochlorite, like 35 to 50 percent!
He used this to downstream roofs!
But, after the Oklahoma City bomb, you just cant get it anymore.
I was told that the bomb was liquid chlorine and nitrogen fertilizer, yikes!

Flojet - Jul 14th, 06, 11:14 AM

I am no longer using the 3.3GPM Shurflo 115V. Too many problems with the electricity shorting out from it getting wet, etc. Chris Tucker told me that pump works better with a 1/2 inch hose and I didn't want to buy extra hose so I am currently using the 12V Flojet 5GPM pump. It is much, much faster. Very strong too. Draws a maximum of 14 amps. I have a 3/4 inch intake hose attached and the output is a 5/8 garden hose. I use an industrial garden hose gun and have a second gun rigged up with a quick connect on the end for attaching different size nozzles. I will take Chris Tucker's advice and buy another and either work them separately with help or run them together in tandem. Great PUMP, recommend highly!

I have a lot of local friends that SWEAR by the Flojet pump you are using!
Many got sick of the shurflo's switch problems, etc, etc.
The Flojet they tell me is a lot better!

I bet with that 5/8 Hose it sprays like a Male Cat ?
