Which ShurFlo? - Jun 19th, 05, 01:11 PM

For those who use ShurFlo pumps to clean roofs, which model do you prefer and why?

I originally started with a 3gpm, but had problems keeping the pump primed on the roof and also seemed to be wasting a lot of chemicals because of the excessive run off. I now use the 1.8gpm and never have problems with the pump lossing its flow on the roof and the run off is now almost non existant while applying the chem which is allowing me to use far less over all.

Has anyone tired a 2.8 gpm? It has pretty quick coverage and very little run-off.

Distance - Jun 21st, 05, 12:43 AM

What about distance vs. psi on the shurFlo?

If you have 200' of hose up at the end of a roof and your truck and chems are 100+ feet away are you having trouble spraying with only a 60psi 3GPM ShurFlo?

Does anyone have any specs on shurflo pump PSI and hose length to adequately cover a 3-4000 sq ft home roof?

I am begining to think I would ned a 150PSI just to get the chem above 16 feet and then to the peak of a 60 degree pitch roof...

I would like to try using a Shurflo but 60 PSI might not make it to the top of the roof.

Tronman, your questions have been answered numerous times already, so why keep beating a dead horse. If myself, and many others on this forum, who do many roofs, have stated that 60psi will reach 30' up on a roof than why keep questioning it? Just buy a 1.8gpm at 60psi hook it up to about 200' of 3/8" polybraid hose and start cleaning some roofs.

Better yet, just spend the money that you're obviously itching to burn and buy your 150 psi pump. No one says what you want to hear, so get what you want and be done with it. We've been doing it for a long time, but that means nothing to you. Apparently you have all the answers to your own questions and then some.
Good luck!

I have 1.8 gpm 60psi setup with 200 f 3/8 hose on blue coxreel. After 2or 3 roof cleanings swivel started leaking. Will SS swivel work better?
What kind reels , swivels are you using?
I have van setup , so i tying to avoid any leaking of chlorine.
Thanks . Vlad .

We keep ours on a storage reel rather than a plumbed reel for that reason. The chlorine tends to eat up the inside of the reel. It's a bit of a pain unwinding/winding 200 ft. of hose, but it's a lot cheaper than replacing reels.

We use an air hose reel from Tractor Supply.

I've found the best thing to use is just a regular plastic hose reel that you would use for garden hose, but which ever hose reel you do choose to use, I would suggest not using the swivel becasue the strong concentration of chlorine will always eat it up and cause it to leak in a short amount of time. Instead of using the swivel, make a pig tail with a stainless quick coupler. When you unroll out your hose to clean the roof connect the plug the comes from the pump to the QC on the hose reel pig tail, then when your packing up simply disconnect the coupler (after draining out the line) and then roll the hose up. Works great and the plastic hose reel will last much longer than a regular steel one.

Yes sir. I love St. Aug. Spent a lot of time there over the years. My friends and I used to go there just about every Sunday, beach most of the day, and soaking some suds at the Conch House. Those where the good ol' days. Then I had to grow up and start being responsible.

Shurflo pump - Mar 5th, 06, 09:46 PM

I use the 3.3 gpm Shurflo 115V pump from Northern Tool. IT ROCKS! No problems with lift or draw. Much faster than the 1.8 gpm 60psi, that I used to have.
