June/July/August are usually our slowest months of the year, so it's good to have a decent job while heading into the slow season.

The fear of Hurricanes, IMHO, has really hurt the residential market.
It is giving Homeowners "reason" to defy the Homeowners Associations here locally.

I have had several homeowners associations tell me they are not as strict lately because what IF someone gets his roof cleaned, it weakens the shingles, and the upcoming Hurricane Winds blow it off ?

Though we know it won't harm a roof, the fear of Hurricanes IMHO has changed this business.
At least here In Tampa.

WE are nowhere near as busy as we were before the 3 Hurricanes hit.

Maybe the roofs are all new, and not in need of cleaning, or maybe it is the Economy Don.
I haven't a clue.

But things are slow as heck here in Tampa, and same for all I know.

Jon Chapman and Thomas have some commercial going on, and we are keeping alive, but it is slow right now.

The key is getting out there and networking with other complimentary businesses,ie. painters, roofers,general contractors,realtors, etc. I myself am looking forward to a break in the action when and if it comes.........

For some of you newer guys out there, this is what will happen on light gray/white shingles. The darker gray, black and earthtone colors usually have the same yellowish/brown stains as well, but aren't nearly as obvious to the eye. You can take the time to rinse it all off, or if you're a non-rinser, let the h.o. know that the stains will rinse off with the next decent rainfall. I've read several times where some of the new guys think they didn't get it clean, but it's usually the light gray/white shingles causing the concern.

Mother Nature rinsed this one for us.

Not to mention that a lot of shingle roofs out there have granule loss. From the perspective of a newer roof cleaner you'll think that it still has algae. But in reality your looking at the asphalt underneath the colored granules.
You can spray until the cows come home and still have a darker spot.

you are sooooo right I have cleaned an old roof before only to find the same problem and the spots where granule loss occured looked like dirt from a distance

We made our second trip to this condominium property this morning for a free roof cleaning demonstration. There are 58 residential buildings/duplexes and 2 amenity buildings. 10 of the residential duplexes are two story and the other 50 units are one story. We were there about 2 weeks ago for a meeting with the condo association leaders. Our bid was submitted the following day. The free demo went well today and we're faxing the contract for review.

Per the request of the condominium association, all roofs will be cleaned from the ground or a ladder at the roof line. They're flat tile and about 20 years old.

I stopped by Brandon on the way home and took the apple to lunch at Smokey Bones. He's a cheap date!

I went to that thread Don, thanks.
I told the guy simply to stick with Sodium over Calcium Hypo w/o getting into all the technical reasons why.
My experiences with chemicals apply mainly to roof cleaning, of course.
However, I WAS told by a chemist way back when that perhaps using Calcium instead of Sodium Hypochlorite would be kinder to plants.
In a house wash application, perhaps the Calcium Hypochlorite would be strong enough to do the job.
And NOT having any Sodium in it, it would present some advantages.
Of course, this is only in theory.
Many of us regularly clean with Sodium Hypochlorite with ZERO problems anyway, because we know what we are doing.
