They are starts for maple trees, I dont think I would want to keep them growing for long. It's a common problem up here if people dont clean there gutters out after the spring storms. It does resemble an herb garden though

We have seen that happen on a cedar shake roof as well. When they start to root in the roof, you know you have problems.

plants as tall as 6 feet, with roots in the downspouts
